A Sparky Who Actually Knows Ballarat
We run the Western Freeway every week, from Bacchus Marsh and Ballan straight through to Ballarat, so getting out to you is no trouble.
Ballarat is really two different jobs for a sparky, and which one you've got comes down to the age of your house. The period homes and the new estates need almost opposite things.
You deal straight with the electrician doing the work. You get a two hour arrival window, a tracking link on the day, and the price we quote is the price you pay.

The Period Homes
Ballarat East, Soldiers Hill and the old streets
A lot of central Ballarat went up between the gold rush and the war, and plenty of it still has wiring that belongs to another era. Rubber and cloth insulated cable goes brittle with age, and once it starts breaking down it becomes a real fire risk.
So around Ballarat East, Soldiers Hill and the central streets the work is usually a rewire or a switchboard upgrade, sometimes both. If your board still has ceramic fuses with wire in them, or there are no safety switches on it, that's the first thing to sort.
Old houses make the job slower and we'd rather say so upfront. Lath and plaster walls, tight roof spaces, no insulation to push cable through, and heritage rules on some streets. We've done plenty of them, including a full rewire on a 1930s Californian bungalow here in Ballarat.

The Newer Estates
Lucas, Alfredton, Winter Valley and Delacombe
Out in the newer estates the wiring is fine. The board is modern, the safety switches are already there, and nothing needs fixing.
The work here is adding what the builder left out. EV chargers in the garage, data points, powerpoints in the alfresco, ceiling fans, and proper lighting where you were given one batten holder per room.
One Ballarat-specific thing worth knowing: it gets genuinely cold here, so we get a lot of calls about heating. Split systems, panel heaters and heated towel rails all need their own circuit, and on an older board there's often nowhere to put one.

What It Costs
What actually changes the price
Everyone wants a number over the phone and we get why. The honest answer is that two jobs that sound identical can be hours apart, so we'd rather tell you what moves it than guess.
What makes a job quicker: a modern switchboard with room in it, a single storey, a roof you can crawl through, and a short run from the board to wherever the power needs to go.
What makes it longer: an old fuse board, lath and plaster walls, a double storey, a tight roof space, brittle old cable that has to be replaced rather than reused, and heritage restrictions on what can be run where.
We come and look, tell you what it'll be, and that's the price. No call-out fee, and no charge for the quote.
Our Reviews
What our customers say
"Harley and Jacob did a fantastic job working on my 1930s Californian Bungalow. Despite several challenges coming up, they came up with solutions and never complained about anything. "Honestly can't thank them enough. The work is honest, efficient and clean. Harley and Jacob are a powerhouse and we finally have access to our security cameras after so many years. It's been a journey but I couldn't think of anybody else to do the job besides these two legends. We've got proper data cabling up and running now and peace of mind knowing we can access our cameras when we're not home."
"Thanks to Harley and the guys for doing such a great job with the Ethernet cable. I now have no more excuses for my poor performance in online gaming."

"I have used NextGen to mount a TV on the wall and repair dysfunctional wall sockets. Harley was very professional, he arrived on time and did an excellent job. I was impressed with the attention to detail mounting the TV and measurements were thorough. Very happy with the service and they were locals to top it all off. Would certainly use them again and highly recommend to all Marshians."
"The team at NextGen are a standout example of how trades and businesses should operate. Reliable, punctual, and consistently neat and tidy, they bring a genuine attention to detail without charging an arm and a leg. They've easily become my go-to for anything electrical. 10/10."

"Just had Harley and Jacob here installing our new stove. Two of the nicest guys and they even checked our smoke detectors and they were out of date. So it was no trouble for them to renew them. Thanks so much guys, will definitely get them back to do any other work for us in the future. Highly recommend."
"Wow! How good are these guys? Had Harley and Jacob out today to do a heap of electrical work at a property we have just purchased. From installing sensor lights, adding a power surge switch to the switchboard, changing lighting in the garage, relocating TV antenna points — fantastic at their job. They even diagnosed a problem with the TV reception and fixed it. Friendly, professional, courteous, neat and tidy. 5 star service."
"Harley and Jacob were friendly, on time, gave a quote over the phone. They gave very helpful advice and didn't charge when it turned out it wasn't what I thought that needed fixing. Don't hesitate to give them a call and save yourself having to possibly buy a new appliance. You know you've got good people when tiny bunnies will approach for pats after just a couple of minutes."
"Harley and Jacob were fantastic from the first time they arrived. Efficient, friendly and knew their job. The price was just terrific and I would recommend NextGen Electricians for any job."
"Great experience with the replacement of our old smoke alarm and installation of 3 downlights. Harley and his team arrived on time for advice and a quote. We were happy with the quote and the job was completed on the day. No fuss, no mess. We also took the opportunity to chat about our difficult security camera setup and decided to upgrade — pleased with the fair and reasonable quote, extra camera included."
"Can't recommend Harley enough. We have had NextGen come out to our home on 3 occasions to do ceiling fans, downlights, security system, data points, LED strips and powerpoints. Everything was done with a high quality standard from start to finish."

About Us
The Family Behind NextGen — Honest, Professional, and On Time
It's Harley, Chloe and Jakob behind the business, a small family-run team that takes pride in doing things properly and looking after our customers.
We started this to build something we're proud of, with a focus on neat work, clear communication, turning up when we say we will, and treating every home with respect.
Outside of work, family is everything. Our daughter Macie keeps us busy, and our two British bulldogs, Banks and Dexter, are a big part of the crew too.
FAQs
Electrician Ballarat Questions
Yes. We're based in Bacchus Marsh and run along the Western Freeway through Ballan to Ballarat regularly, so Ballarat and the surrounding suburbs are part of our normal service area. There's no extra travel fee for coming out to you.
It depends on the job. Small jobs like replacing a powerpoint or installing a fan are quick and affordable, while bigger jobs like a switchboard upgrade or EV charger are quoted on the work involved. We give you a clear price upfront before we start, there's no call-out fee, and the price we quote is the price you pay. Give us a call and we'll talk you through it.
No. We quote the job, not the hour, so you know what you're up for before we start rather than watching the clock. If something turns up mid-job that genuinely changes the work, we stop and talk to you about it first.
Yes, and we do a fair few of them. Older Ballarat homes often have rubber or cloth insulated cable that's gone brittle, which is a genuine fire risk once it starts breaking down. We work through it room by room so you're not without power, and we'll tell you honestly whether you need the whole house done or just the worst circuits.
Open it and look. Ceramic fuses with fuse wire in them, or no safety switches on the board, means it's due. Same if it trips often, if there's no room left to add a circuit, or if you're putting in heating, an EV charger or a big appliance and there's nowhere to land it.
Yes, and it's one of the more common calls we get in Ballarat. Split systems, panel heaters and heated towel rails generally need their own dedicated circuit. On an older board there's often no spare space, so the heating job turns into a switchboard job. We'll tell you that upfront rather than halfway through.
No. We don't charge a call-out fee to come out and look at your job in Ballarat. You get honest advice and a clear quote first, with no obligation to go ahead.
Yes. We're a Registered Electrical Contractor (REC 30905), A-Grade licensed and fully insured, and every job is completed to Australian Standards with a Certificate of Electrical Safety where one is required.
We cover central Ballarat and Ballarat East through to Wendouree, Alfredton, Sebastopol, Delacombe, Mount Clear, Buninyong and the surrounding towns like Ballan and Smythesdale. If you're close by and not sure, just ask.
We'll always do our best to fit you in fast, especially for things like a tripping switchboard, lost power to part of the house, or a safety concern. Local jobs around Ballarat we can usually get to quickly, depending on how booked we are. Give us a call and we'll let you know the soonest we can be there.
