Switchboard Upgrades in Bacchus Marsh, Melton and Surrounding Areas
Your switchboard is the heart of your entire electrical system. Older homes commonly still have ceramic fuses, outdated safety switches, overloaded circuits or switchboards that were never designed for modern electrical demand. Things like EV chargers, induction cooktops, large air conditioners, solar systems and modern appliances all place a much bigger load on your electrical system than homes used to have years ago. We upgrade switchboards every week across homes of all ages. Whether it's replacing old ceramic fuses, adding proper safety switch protection or upgrading the entire setup, we'll make sure your home is safe, compliant and ready for modern electrical use.

Why This Matters
Your Switchboard Protects Your Entire Home
Your switchboard controls and protects every electrical circuit in the house.
If something goes wrong electrically, your switchboard is the first thing designed to react and protect both your property and the people inside it.
A lot of older homes still have outdated protection or switchboards that were installed decades ago before modern electrical loads existed.
Modern switchboards are designed to safely handle today's electrical demand while providing significantly better protection throughout the home.
Signs You May Need An Upgrade
Common Reasons Homeowners Upgrade Their Switchboard
These are some of the most common things we see that normally lead to a switchboard upgrade.
Old Ceramic Fuses
Older ceramic fuse boards offer very limited protection compared to modern switchboards. A lot of these boards are now well past their intended lifespan and were never designed for modern household electrical demand.
Limited Safety Switch Protection
A lot of homes only have one older style safety switch protecting multiple circuits or sometimes none at all. Modern switchboards now use separate safety protection across individual circuits throughout the home.
Power Keeps Tripping
Frequent tripping, flickering lights or circuits randomly cutting out can often be a sign the switchboard is struggling or outdated. Modern electrical systems are designed to isolate issues much more effectively.
No Room For New Circuits
Adding things like EV chargers, air conditioners, induction cooktops or solar systems often requires additional switchboard capacity. A lot of older boards simply don't have the room anymore.
Upgrading To Three Phase Power
Some homeowners choose to upgrade their property to three phase power for things like larger workshops, higher powered EV chargers, bigger air conditioners or certain appliances. A switchboard upgrade is often completed at the same time to make sure the electrical system is ready for the additional capacity.
Renovations Or Home Upgrades
Kitchen renovations, extensions and major electrical upgrades are often the perfect time to modernise the switchboard as well. It's much easier to upgrade everything properly at the same time.

Older Switchboards
Modern Safety Protection for Your Home
A lot of older homes still have old ceramic fuses, no safety switches, or only one safety switch protecting the whole house.
Modern switchboards are designed to provide significantly better protection throughout the home and help protect both people and property from electrical faults.
Upgrading your switchboard is one of the best ways to improve the overall safety of your home and bring the electrical system up to modern standards.

FAQs
Switchboard Upgrade Questions
It really depends on your switchboard and the condition of your existing setup, along with what you're trying to achieve. Some people want the most budget friendly option possible, some people want to future proof the property for EV chargers and solar, and some people simply want the safest possible setup for their family. The best thing to do is give us a call so we can have a chat about your switchboard and tailor a solution to suit your house properly.
Most switchboard upgrades are completed the same day. Once we've had a look at your switchboard and discussed the work involved, we'll be able to give you an approximate timeframe so you know how long the power will be off for during the day.
No. During a switchboard upgrade, power to the property will need to be isolated so we can work safely. This involves disconnecting either the underground mains supply or the overhead power supply while the work is being completed.
This really depends on your switchboard and electrical setup. Most of the time, the answer is actually no. Modern EV chargers are very smart and can often be configured to limit power usage so they don't overload the property. If you've got an older porcelain fuse board though, then yes, a switchboard upgrade will normally be required before installing an EV charger. Either way, once we've had a look at the setup, we'll be able to tell you straight away what's going to work best for your property.
Yes. Every switchboard upgrade comes with a Certificate of Electrical Safety (COES), which gets submitted once the work is completed. If your property has an older porcelain fuse board, the job will also require an independent electrical inspector to attend site as part of the process, which we organise for you. You don't need to worry about organising any of that yourself.
