EV Charger Installation Cost in Bacchus Marsh, Melton and Ballarat

The cost of a home EV charger install comes down to four things: the charger you pick, how far it goes from your switchboard, whether you have single or three-phase power, and whether your switchboard needs work first.

Most homes need a single-phase charger on its own circuit, fitted in one visit. We give you a clear price before we start, and there's no call-out fee.

How We Price an EV Charger Install

We don't publish a set price, because no two homes are wired the same. The price we quote is the price you pay, and you get it before we start.

Want a number today? Our EV quote form takes about two minutes. Tell us about your car, your home and the charger you like, and it gives you an estimate. A copy goes straight to your email.

We then check your details and confirm what the install needs. Sometimes we'll ask for a couple of photos of your switchboard and where the charger will go, so the price is right before we book you in.

1. The Charger You Choose

We supply and install EVnex, Zappi, Ocular, Autel and Tesla chargers. A basic smart charger gives you app control and scheduling. A solar-compatible charger costs more, but it can run your car on spare solar that would otherwise go back to the grid.

Already bought a charger? We'll install it, as long as it's approved for use in Australia. Some cheap no-name chargers sold online aren't. They can cause problems with compliance, and if something goes wrong they can affect your home insurance, even when the install itself was done right.

Where It Goes

2. How Far the Charger Sits From Your Switchboard

The longer the cable run, the more cable and time the job takes. Our quote form puts every install into one of these four spots.

1

Within 1 Metre of the Switchboard

The simplest job. When the charger goes right next to the switchboard, it's often done in an hour or two.

2

Same Side of the House

The switchboard is on the same side of the house as the garage, and the charger goes in or outside the garage.

3

Opposite Side of the House

The switchboard is on the other side of the house, so the cable has to run across to the garage. Longer runs can add a few hours.

4

A Different Building

The charger goes in a shed or carport away from the house. We price these with you over the phone.

3. Single or Three-Phase Power

You don't need three-phase power for an EV charger. Most homes run single phase, and a 7.4kW single-phase charger is plenty for overnight charging. Most EV owners keep the battery between about 40% and 80% and plug in each night to top up.

Three-phase lets you fit a faster charger, but many EVs can only take around 11kW on AC charging anyway. A three-phase charger and its wiring usually cost more, so it only makes sense if you'll use the extra speed.

If you pick a three-phase charger and your home is single phase, we'll suggest a single-phase charger or check whether a supply upgrade makes sense. Not sure what you've got? We quote single phase, because that's what most homes have.

4. Whether Your Switchboard Needs Work

Most of the time, you don't need a switchboard upgrade to add an EV charger. Modern chargers can be set to limit how much power they draw, so they don't overload the house.

If you have an old porcelain fuse board, a switchboard upgrade will normally be needed first. An old board can also run out of room for the new circuit. When a porcelain fuse board is replaced, an independent electrical inspector has to attend as well. We organise that for you.

Once we've seen your board, or a photo of it, we can tell you straight away what will work.

EV Charger Rules in Victoria

A home EV charger has to be installed by a licensed electrician. It goes on its own circuit with safety switch protection, wired to the Australian wiring rules.

You don't need a permit to install an EV charger at a house in Victoria. You do need a Certificate of Electrical Safety. We fill it in and submit it on the day of the install, then email you a copy. Keep it, because it matters for compliance and for your home insurance.

We are a Registered Electrical Contractor, REC 30905. You can check any electrician on the Energy Safe Victoria public register.

EV Charger Cost Questions

Because the price depends on your charger, where it goes and your switchboard. We'd rather give you a real price for your home than a guess. Our quote form gives you an estimate in about two minutes, and we confirm the final price before we start.

No. There's no call-out fee, and the price we quote is the price you pay.

One visit. If the charger goes near the switchboard, it's often an hour or two. Longer cable runs can take a few hours more. We test everything and show you how it works before we leave.

No, not for a charger at a house. You do need a Certificate of Electrical Safety, which we submit on the day and email to you.

Yes. A solar-compatible charger can run your car on spare solar. It works best if the car is home during the day. If it isn't, a standard charger still uses solar first when the sun is out, the same way your house does.
