FAQs

Powerpoint & Lighting Questions

The cost of installing a new power point can vary depending on the property and the difficulty of the installation. Things like the distance from the nearest existing power point, roof or underfloor access, wall construction, and whether the home is single or double storey can all affect pricing. Because every home is different, we provide quotes on site so we can assess the property and give you an accurate fixed price based on your exact setup. That means you're only paying for the work your property actually requires, rather than a one size fits all price.

The cost of LED downlight installation can vary depending on the home, the number of lights being installed and the type of downlights you choose. We offer a range of different downlight options, from more budget friendly lighting through to premium low glare fittings with upgraded performance and warranty options. Pricing can also vary depending on the layout of the home, roof access and how many downlights are being installed. In most cases, the larger the quantity of downlights, the more cost effective the pricing becomes per light. Because every home and lighting setup is different, we provide quotes on site so we can recommend the right option for your space and provide accurate pricing based on your exact installation.

No. In Australia, electrical work such as installing or replacing a power point must legally be completed by a licensed electrician. In Victoria, electrical work also requires a Certificate of Electrical Safety to be issued as a record that the work has been completed correctly and complies with current regulations. Even apprentice electricians cannot legally complete this type of work on their own without supervision and sign off from a licensed electrical contractor. Using a licensed electrician helps ensure the installation is safe, compliant and covered correctly for insurance purposes.

That's a really common question. If your home currently has older halogen downlights, the existing dimmers are usually designed specifically for halogen lighting and generally won't work correctly with new LED downlights. When upgrading to LED lighting, we can also upgrade the existing dimmers to LED compatible dimmers so everything works smoothly together. This is a very common part of LED downlight upgrades and something we check during the installation process.

Yes, we regularly install customer supplied pendant lights and feature lighting. The main thing is making sure the light is approved for installation in Australia. Most lights purchased through Australian lighting stores are fine, however some lights purchased online through overseas sellers, eBay or Amazon may not meet Australian approval requirements. If a light fitting is not Australian approved, it cannot legally be installed or certified in Australia. If you're unsure before purchasing, feel free to reach out.

These are the three main colour options available with modern LED lighting. Most LED downlights now come with a switch on the fitting itself that allows you to select between warm white, cool white and daylight before installation. When we install downlights, we can show you all three options so you can choose the colour that best suits your home. Warm white is the softer yellow style of lighting commonly seen in older homes and is popular for feature lighting, pendant lights and outdoor areas. Cool white is a much brighter white light, similar to the type of lighting often seen in supermarkets, medical clinics or commercial spaces. Daylight is the closest to natural daylight and is generally the most popular option for homes. Around 95% of our clients choose daylight for their downlight installations.

We install most types of outdoor lighting attached to the home, including feature lighting, sensor lights, flood lights, spotlights, festoon lighting and general outdoor lighting upgrades. At the moment, we don't specialise in landscape or garden lighting installations such as in ground garden lights or deck lighting systems. However, we can still run power to those areas if you're planning future garden lighting or working with a landscaping company later on.
